Celebrate the Season

Holiday Guide to Downtown Seattle

The holiday season is always a magical time in Seattle. Crisp autumn air slowly gives way to twinkling winter lights, cheerful holiday markets, and world-class performances. Whether you'd rather cozy up indoors or bundle up and enjoy the chill, here are the events and attractions our guests enjoy this time of year.

Seasonal Markets & Winter Wonderlands

Seattle Christmas Market (Seattle Center)

Running from late November through December, this European-style winter village is one of the season's true highlights. You'll find charming wooden vendor huts, warm festive drinks, hearty food, holiday karaoke, and visits with Santa. It's pure holiday nostalgia.

Winterfest at Seattle Center

Right alongside the Christmas Market, Winterfest brings daily family-friendly fun. Visit the historic Winter Train & Village, catch weekend musical performances on the Armory Stage, and watch skilled artists carve live ice sculptures at the Mural Amphitheater on Saturdays.

WildLanterns at Woodland Park Zoo

Just a short ride north of downtown, the zoo transforms into a glowing landscape of giant animal and nature lanterns. It makes for a lovely evening walk, and guests of every age come back smiling.

Holiday Lights & Festive Windows

Downtown Seattle truly comes alive in November. Take a leisurely stroll past the classic holiday window displays at our local flagship stores, then wander over to Westlake Park to see the giant glowing star. It's been downtown's festive centerpiece for generations. We're tucked just off Olive Way with a direct connection to Westlake Center, so you couldn't ask for a better home base for the season.

Classic Holiday Theater & Arts

Seattle takes its performing arts seriously, and winter is the season for timeless traditions.

Pacific Northwest Ballet's The Nutcracker (McCaw Hall)

Running from late November through December, George Balanchine's production is a beloved Seattle institution. With Tchaikovsky's magnificent score and stunning sets, it's holiday elegance at its finest.

Holiday Stage Productions

For a festive night out, check the schedules at the nearby Seattle Repertory Theatre and Seattle Children's Theatre. Both host rotating holiday comedies, classic pageants, and family-friendly shows throughout November and December.

Arena Highlights & New Year's Festivities

Climate Pledge Arena

Just a monorail ride away at Seattle Center, the arena welcomes big touring acts all season long. You'll find everything from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in late November to holiday concerts and exciting Seattle Kraken NHL hockey games.

New Year's Eve at Seattle Center

Ring in the new year with live music, festivities, and the iconic midnight fireworks and light show that cascade from the base of the Space Needle.

Tips for Your Seattle Stay

The historic Seattle Monorail is just blocks from our door. It will whisk you from Westlake straight to Seattle Center in under three minutes, gliding right over any traffic below. It's one of the easiest (and most charming) ways to reach many of the spots in this guide.

After an afternoon of holiday shopping, come in from the cold and settle into our own Oliver's Restaurant. Sink into a plush seat, order one of our award-winning martinis, and watch the city bustle past the windows. If you're curious about the hotel's vintage décor and the stories behind it, just ask. We love sharing a bit of history.

Wishing you a warm and wonderful holiday season, and a truly memorable stay in Seattle.
